Works to renew the seawall at Town Beach will be carried out from February – May 2026.

The upgrades will cover approximately 200 metres of the existing seawall at the beach, and will consist of:

  • Demolition works to clear and excavate old limestone rocks and access stairway
  • Stockpiling existing limestone rocks to be reused
  • Placing new materials to reinforce the structure
  • Landscaping and fencing works
  • Installation of new access stairway
  • Revegetation around Town Beach Carpark

These works will involve the use of heavy machinery, and there may be some disturbance due to noise during this period. Controls will be in place to reduce noise and dust production as much as possible.

The footpath in front of Seashells Resort will remain open, barring a small period when the seawall is being constructed around the Breakwater Parade car park.

This infrastructure project is made possible through a $1.32 million grant from the State Government’s CoastWA program, and is jointly funded by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure and the City of Mandurah.

Why are these works needed?

Town Beach was identified as one of Western Australia’s 55 coastal erosion hotspots. The current seawall, built in the late 1990s, has required multiple emergency repairs due to storm damage, posing risks to public safety and nearby infrastructure.

This renewal will provide a long-term solution, safeguarding the beach, dual-use paths, carparks, and the Seashells Resort from the impacts of coastal erosion.

These works will secure an important area for our community and ensure Mandurah residents can continue to swim, fish and enjoy the beach long into the future.

Our pristine coastline is the cornerstone of Mandurah’s identity, and ensuring our waterways are healthy and celebrated is a key objective for the City.

Why are these works being carried out during the warmer months?

These works must be completed prior to the winter months, as inclement weather and beach conditions would make it impossible for the required machinery to access the beach.

The works schedule has been pushed back to ensure beachgoers could fully experience Town Beach throughout the entire school holiday period, however there will still be room for all who wish to use the beach while works are being completed.
